Residential

Residential moving in Québec

From a one-bedroom apartment to a single-family house, describe your move once. Eligible companies serving your area can then offer you a quote.

What to expect

A residential move is usually billed by time (an hourly rate per crew and truck) or as a flat price set by the company. The final price depends on its inventory, access at both addresses, distance and the company's own rates: Déménagements.ca does not set prices.

  • Crew size

The proposed number of movers depends on volume and access. A larger crew can shorten the job.

  • Truck and route

Distance between addresses and, for many companies, travel from their warehouse are part of the calculation.

  • Reviewed quote

A binding quote should rest on a confirmed inventory, sometimes after a call or a visit.

Details that help with an estimate

The more precise the description, the more precise estimates can be. The form asks these questions progressively:

  • Home size (studio, one-, two- or three-bedroom, house) and approximate number of rooms.
  • Large items: appliances, sectionals, beds to disassemble, heavy furniture.
  • Approximate number of boxes, and whether you want help with packing.
  • Special items (piano, safe, artwork): mention them, as they often require suitable equipment.

Stairs, elevator and parking

  • State the floor at both addresses and whether stairs are indoor, outdoor or spiral.
  • Elevator: say whether one is available, whether it must be booked and whether there is a service elevator.
  • Parking: estimate the distance between the truck and the door, and mention narrow streets, alleys or no-stopping zones.
  • In a building, ask management whether the elevator must be booked, walls protected or specific hours respected.

The July 1 peak period

In Québec, many residential leases end on June 30. Demand is therefore very high around July 1, and availability becomes scarce.

  • Submit your request several weeks in advance if your date falls between mid-June and mid-July.
  • Say whether your date is flexible: a weekday or a date shifted by a few days can make scheduling easier.
  • Some municipalities or boroughs require a permit to reserve curb space for the truck; check with your city.
  • Have your boxes ready before the crew arrives: in peak season, every hour counts.

Your request and your consent

  1. You describe the move

Type of move, validated addresses, date and a few details. No contact details are requested at this step.

  2. You give explicit consent

Your contact details are only shared with eligible companies serving your area, at most the number stated in the consent you accept.

  3. Companies first see an anonymized summary

Areas, date, type and approximate size. Your contact details go only to the selected movers (3 to 5 depending on your contact preference).

The sharing consent checkbox is separate from the optional newsletter checkbox, which is never pre-checked. You can withdraw your consent at any time by contacting the privacy officer listed in our privacy policy.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a residential move cost?

It depends on inventory, access, distance, date and each company's own rates. Déménagements.ca does not publish an average price: ask for a detailed quote and compare what is included.

Do I need to provide a full inventory?

No, not for the request. An approximate estimate is enough to start. The company that contacts you can confirm the inventory before giving you a binding quote.

When should I book for July 1?

As early as possible. Availability around July 1 is limited; a flexible date increases your chances of finding an available company.
