Specialized
Specialized moving
Some items require specific equipment, experience and planning. A precise description lets eligible companies judge whether they can do the job.
Commonly involved items
Pianos
Upright or grand: the type, stairs and turns completely change the approach.
Safes
Weight and floor capacity are decisive; give the model if you know it.
Pool tables and heavy items
A slate table is usually disassembled; say whether it must be reinstalled.
Art and antiques
Custom crating, wrapping and handling: to be discussed before the date.
Details that help with an estimate
- Item type, dimensions and approximate weight (manufacturer sheet if available).
- The full path: steps, landings, turns, door widths.
- Whether the item must be disassembled, reassembled or installed in a specific spot.
- The approximate value, to discuss applicable coverage with the company.
Coverage and insurance
Ask the company in writing what coverage applies to the item and under which conditions. Déménagements.ca does not insure transported goods.
Access and protecting the premises
- State the floor at both addresses and whether stairs are indoor, outdoor or spiral.
- Elevator: say whether one is available, whether it must be booked and whether there is a service elevator.
- Parking: estimate the distance between the truck and the door, and mention narrow streets, alleys or no-stopping zones.
- For very heavy items, mention the floor type and any fragile surface along the path.
The July 1 peak period
In Québec, many residential leases end on June 30. Demand is therefore very high around July 1, and availability becomes scarce.
- Submit your request several weeks in advance if your date falls between mid-June and mid-July.
- Say whether your date is flexible: a weekday or a date shifted by a few days can make scheduling easier.
- Some municipalities or boroughs require a permit to reserve curb space for the truck; check with your city.
- Crews equipped for specialized items are few: in peak season, plan even further ahead.
Your request and your consent
You describe the move
Type of move, validated addresses, date and a few details. No contact details are requested at this step.
You give explicit consent
Your contact details are only shared with eligible companies serving your area, at most the number stated in the consent you accept.
Companies first see an anonymized summary
Areas, date, type and approximate size. Your contact details go only to the selected movers (3 to 5 depending on your contact preference).
The sharing consent checkbox is separate from the optional newsletter checkbox, which is never pre-checked. You can withdraw your consent at any time by contacting the privacy officer listed in our privacy policy.
